Residentual Structure Fire
2/6/12

On Monday morning, just before 5AM, Stations 227,223,222,226 & RIT-196 were alerted for a Residentual Structure fire at 130 Orchard Dr. Police and 227 Chief on scene reporting working basement fire. EN-227 on scene, crews pulling line to the back door to attack the basement. EN-223-2 arrived on scene and assisted with fire attack. EN-227 secured a plug in the front yard, EN-222 assisted in fire attack on the first floor. RIT-196 arrived and set up RIT operations in the front yard. Fire out, crews performed ventilation and extreme overhaul. Fire marshal was notified, all units returned in service as they picked up. NO Injuries were reported. Great job by all on scene.

Residentual Structure Fire
1/20/12

On Friday, Stations 224,223,222 & 285 were alerted for a possible Residentual Structure Fire at 250 Northmont Dr in Penn Hills. 222LT2 on scene reporting smoke visible from the roof. EN-222-1 and EN-223-2 first on scene, with crews pulling an attack line from EN-222 and starting to advance it to the kitchen area where the fire was reported out. Crews checked for extension and performed overhaul and hit some hot spots. The structure was ventilated, the fire marshal was called to the scene, everyone returned in service as they picked up. NO Injuries were reported.

MVA W/ Entrapment
12/29/11

On Thursday, Rescue Companies 227,223 & 222 were alerted for a motor vehicle accident with entrapment at Rodi Rd and Stone Ledge Dr in Penn Hills. Medic 382 on scene confirming one patient pinned, first rescue on scene to pop the door. EN-223-1 was first rescue on scene, putting the spreaders to work removing the door and assisting the medics with packaging of the patient. RQ-222 and RQ-227 arrived on scene and assisted with cribbing and patient packaging. SV-223 remained on scene for 2 hours with PHPD and State Police while they reconstructed the accident scene from the police chase. The vehicles were removed by tow, fluids where contained, all units returned in service.                            WTAE Coverage of the Accident

Busy Thanksgiving
11/24/11

On Thanksgiving, it was a 3 call day. Two stove fires with burnt turkeys and one residential fire alarm. All incidents were held with no major extension. Hope everyone had a great thanksgiving!

Busy Wednesday
11/23/11

On Wednesday, It was a busy day for all of the Penn Hills Fire Companies, Station 223 responded to 5 calls for the day. They ranged from a commercial fire alarm, vehicle accidents with injuries, containment detail, and a kitchen fire. Thanks to all volunteers who responded!

Commercial Structure Fire
11/18/11

On Friday morning, shortly before 7:00am.  Stations 227, 222, 223, 225, RIT 196 were alert for an apartment on fire at 11670 Frankstown Rd.  EN-227 arrived on scene with smoke showing, Crews advanced an attack line.  Truck 227 arrived on scene and assisted EN-227.  EN-225 secured a water supply.  223 & 222 assisted with extinguishment and ventilation.  Damage was confined to only one apartment.  No injuries were reported.  The Allegheny County Fire Marshal is investigating the cause.

Structure Burn Training
11/13/11

On Sunday November 13th, Members of 223,225,222, & Verona 285 took part in a All-day Structure Burn Training Session with Certified Fire Instructors. Guys went through many Situations under Live Fire Conditions. Companies worked on Line Placement, Line Advancement, Attacking the Fire, Search and Rescue, and Ladder work. Thanks to 223 Chief for putting the Day together and food for us to eat and to the Instructors for a Great day of Training and allowing everyone to sharpen their skills!

Fire Prevention
10/22/11-10/26/11

With another successful year of Fire Prevention put in the books, we would like to send a special thanks to MotherGoose Day Care and KinderCare for letting us come teach the kids fire safety and show them our trucks. Also on the 22nd, Station 223 spend the afternoon at McDonalds on Saltsburg rd for a few hours with State Farm, handing out fire safety tips and showing our community our equipment. Special thanks to McDonalds and State Farm for hosting the event!!

Residential Structure Fire
10/22/11

On Saturday Night, Stations 227, 223, 222, 225 and RIT 196 were alerted for a residential structure fire at 11651 Althea Dr. Medics on scene reporting smoke showing from side “A”, hydrant three houses away. EN-227 arrived on scene, crews pulling a hand line and going to work on attacking the fire, EN-223-2 & EN-222 arrived right behind them, 223 Crew doing a search and 222 crew assisting on fire attack. 223 Crew found a dog in the bedroom, handed him over to the medics for assessment, due to the smoke, the dog did not make it. RQ-196 arrived and set up for RIT in the front yard. All utilities were notified. Crews checked for extension and performed overhaul. The scene was turned over to the county fire marshal, all units returned in service as they picked up. Great job by all on scene. NO Injuries were reported!!

Commercial Structure Fire
10/12/11

On Wednesday Morning, Station 223 was alerted around 5am on a 3rd alarm to assist Verona FD on a working commercial structure fire at the Moose Lodge at 635 E. Railroad Ave. 223 crews arrived and started to relive others on multiple hand lines operating to put out the multiple structures involved.  All companies involved worked for over 5 hours on scene before bringing the fire under control. The building was demolished while crews put out all the hot spots. Crews started to return in service as they picked up. The Salvation Army is helping the homeowners that where affected. Great job by everyone on scene! One injury was reported, transported to a local hospital for a shoulder injury. Thank you Verona for the tab at Dunkin Donuts!

Vehicle Fire
10/7/11

On Friday, Stations 223,222,& 224 were alerted for a vehicle fire at the intersection of Hulton and Hamil Rd. 223 Capt. on scene reporting fully involved truck fire with trailer attached, starting to catch fire with gas tank in the bed of the truck. Before any units arrived, the gas tank exploded. EN-223-2 first arriving pumper on scene with crews pulling an attack line and going to work extinguishing the fire. EN-224 arrived and pulled a second line and assisted with the hot spots. Fire extinguished, vehicle was removed by tow, street was cleaned off. All units returned in service as they picked up. Residential Structure Fire
10/5/11

On Wednesday, Just after midnight, Stations 227,226,223,222 & RQ196 were alerted for a structure filling up with smoke at 116 Webster Dr. EN-227-1 arrived on scene reporting smoke showing from side “A”. Interior crews located a dryer fire in the basement, extinguishing it quickly. The structure was ventilated, and all crews turned in service. No injuries were reported.

Residential Structure Fire
10/3/11

On Monday morning, just before 3am, Stations 227, 225,222,223 and RQ 196 were alerted for a house filing up with smoke at 11843 Joan Drive. PD on scene confirming smoke throughout the structure, all occupants out of the structure. EN-227 on scene reporting smoke showing, plug in the front yard. EN-227 secured the water supply. 225 TK arrived on scene, in front of the structure to set up for roof operations. Interior crews found a fire in the ceiling on the first floor. All utilities were secured to the residents. EN-223-2 arrived on scene and was appointed RIT duties by command. RIT was set up in the front yard of the house.  The fire was extinguished and the structure was ventilated. Penn Hills Fire Marshall was notified to respond. No injuries were reported, crews returned in service as they picked up. Great job by all on scene!

Residential Structure Fire
10/2/11

On Sunday, during our dinner after the service, the tones were dropped for a dryer fire at 156 Crescent Hills Rd. Crews from 227, 223 and 222 were en-route immediately. EN-227 arrived on scene, reporting smoke showing from the front of the structure.  Crews located an active dryer fire in the basement, and it was extinguished quickly. The structure was ventilated, and crews returned to dinner for desert!

43rd Annual Memorial Service
10/2/11

On Sunday, the 43rd Annual Penn Hills and Verona Memorial Service was held at Hebron Church on Frankston Rd. It was a nice service held by Station 225 this year, with even greater dinner afterwards.
